The Greatest Agrarian Uprising in History: The Farmer Protests In India

In the second online event of the year, WAYU met with Prof. Atul Sood and Navkiran Natt to understand the biggest agricultural uprising in history and to be in solidarity with 250 million Indian Farmers who protested.

Against neo-liberal laws and poor governance, farmers who have carried their action, which lasts of months to New Delhi, do not accept the legislation as the new agricultural laws will reduce their earnings and eventually leave them landless.

Farmers are demanding the withdrawal of the so-called agrarian reform and a legal guarantee for the minimum incentive price. Prof. Atul Sood stated that these actions have strong political leadership and the demands will be successful.

Navkiran Natt from #Youth Union of India stated that it is very important for #women farmers to participate in these protests against the legislation and for women to take leading positions in the protests, and that such participation is a first in India. She pointed out that the majority in the protests are minorities and the important role of the #Muslim population in the action.

Thanks to our brilliant speakers and all participants.
